The state of the connected factory
As products become more complex and unique, they require significant changes to existing mass production techniques. Most of the advances in efficiency will come from optimization of manufacturing protocols that arise from intelligent and flexible software systems. As these systems evolve, they will envelope and control more devices, leading to an increasingly connected factory. Automation component suppliers, end users, and those developing the software to connect it all will need to adapt in order to profitably accommodate increasing market demands. Editor Chris Rommel of M2M Now, explains how the increase in M2M communication will force manufacturing facilities to evolve: http://www.m2mnow.biz/2015/01/05/28653-state-connected-factory/
