Chinese steel industry plans to build internet platforms

Chinese steel industry is currently coping with the nation’s economic slowdown. What the industry members are offering as a solution is an internet platform gathering information from various range of operators such as steel producers, suppliers, end-users and technology providers. “The open statistics of the platform will help the industry find its supply-demand balance and solve the overcapacity problem,” says Gan Yong, vice-president of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and chairman of the China Iron and Steel Research Institute Group for China Daily. The aim of the internet platform is to integrate modern manufacturing with cloud computing, big data, mobile internet and Internet of Things. According to Yong that could help to make China’s steel industry profitable again.
